Unnamed Worlds 1-4
A downloadable zine
WORLDS FOR ROLEPLAYING
Unnamed Worlds is a collaborative collection of new and twisted worlds suitable for roleplaying, It includes:
- quick start scenarios;
- fiction and art as inspiration;
- roleplaying tools useful at any table; and
- detailed worlds and adventures to explore.
CURRENT ISSUES
- Issue 1 is the Launch, with Paulo’s Wreckers!, the Open Licence and more.
- Issue 2 is about Magic, with Brine’ A Magic System and The Steep Mage, Wightbred’s A Study of Goblyns and Modern Magic, and more.
- Issue 3 is about Conflict, with Pete Jones’ Dogs of Hell, Paulo’s Beast of Gevaudan, and Wightbred’s WW2 Blood & Toil.
MINIMAL MECHANICS
We trust and expect the players to bring the world to the table, so we simplify our own mechanics when roleplaying. Mechanics will be minimised in this zine so you can play using whatever system or approach you desire. There will be ideas for generic tools and occasional notes on using simple trait based toolkits like my own Named toolkit.
(IN)FREQUENCY
We will put out a new free PDF issue whenever we have enough content. After we get to 250 pages or so of content, we’ll put it into a consolidated document and make it available as print on demand at cost.
GETTING INVOLVED
Reach out if you are interested in contributions or collaborations of words or art that fit the concept of focussing on worlds. They need fit the vibe, be accommodated in the A5 form factor, and not use AI in their creation. All contributors will retain copyright and can have already or choose to later publish their content elsewhere, but agree for their input to be made available on an ongoing basis as part of this free PDF zine, the consolidated version, and an at cost printing of the consolidated version.
CURRENT CONTRIBUTORS
At present these people have contributed:
- Wightbred has boiled decades of roleplaying design and experimentation into the Named Toolkit.
- Paulo wrote Paleolythic Voyages.
- Brine writes about roleplaying at brine.dev.
Current cover image for this project is Suite d'un bal masqué by Jean-Léon Gérôme, which has been flipped left to right and cropped.

Loving the podcast and two zines. Good spread of articles.
Thanks for the support.
Coming from someone with such a long-running Podcast and some very cool itch.io work, I take that as high praise.
Tried to hit you on email, but address on your site doesn’t seem to be working. Really like Dogs of Hell, and keen to republish it system neutral in Unnamed Worlds if you are interested.
Cheers.
Good find on the email address (now updated on website). Yes it has changed correct email is: dragonsarerealpodcast@proton.me
Yes quite happy for it to be included in Unamed. Shoot me an email and I will convert to System Neutral as I still have the original files squirreled away so won't take much work.
Wightbred and I talk about Unnamed Worlds in a new podcast series: E1 Unnamed Worlds, Tarot Magic, and Conversation-First Design
It should also be available in your favorite podcast app…
I am curious, how did you do the cover
Assuming you used a magic wand tool to cut out the foreground characters,
moved them into a separate layer, then put the text in an in-between layer.
Just curious, I am trying to improve my graphic design skills.
I am also interested in contributing,
humbly submitting this project for consideration.
Let them Eat Cake! by TrueTenno
I did copy out the foreground characters, added text and dropped them back in. It isn’t pretty how I do it, but it works OK.
Love Let Them Eat Cake, and the vibe of your other work. Thinking it might fit as a Quick Start for Issue 3 which will be conflict. I’ll lay it out and see how it works, and we can chat direct on details as needed.
Edit: Hey @TrueTenno - trying to work out a way to DM you as Im not on Facebook. Are you on Reddit, Discord or Mastodon (dice.camp)? I’m Wightbred on all of them.
The First Cover is much better, IMHO, it doesn't have a rocket on the front ;)
Ha! Yeah, the first one is the plan for the consolidated version. Just did a Launch related for the first issue.
Just skimmed through, high quality as always!
