Launch of Unnamed Worlds
A long-ish post about the launch of Unnamed Worlds, and why this is happening,
WANT MORE WORLDS
I’ve been designing roleplaying systems for decades, and I finally cracked the code and completed the perfect mechanics that we need for maximum roleplaying fun. That is a huge freaking victory I’m very happy with, but it has two issues:
- People’s preferred roleplay styles are different, so I can’t really help you find your own perfect, because my perfect is probably your meh.
- What do I do with the design experience and energy now I don’t need to focus on designing mechanics?
A solution for both of these is Worlds: fiction, maps, art, adventures, and even fully detailed new or twisted worlds for roleplaying. These are things you might be able to use regardless of your style, because we are keeping mechanics out as much as possible. And it fills the design void for me.
I also love books that draw out worlds without giving me mechanics for systems I won’t use. They are pretty rare, as most ttrpg books include a lot of mechanics and most adventures have a lot of stat blocks. There are some nice in world books like The Red Book for Paranoia, but we need more. If you have found some good options of this type of product, definitely keen to see them in the chat. Doing a zine is a way to progressively put out and test useful content, and then pull it together into a book.
Unnamed Worlds attempts to deliver a creativity outlet and need for worlds. Worlds without mechanics is never going to be as popular as systems, but this is about creating and playing not fame or cash. Feel free to join us if you yearn for unnamed worlds yet to come.
Have got a bunch of content for the next few issues already, but there is always room if you have more. And community and collaboration creates more worlds that are more interesting. The potential themes for upcoming issues:
- Magic;
- Conflict; and then maybe
- Numbers.
